Cherokee day 1

Upon arriving in North Carolina I am most excited about the environment, landscape and opportunities presented throughout the week. After reading the agenda for the week I am prepared to get the most out of this course and enjoy every step up of it. All that I am worried about is the weather. We have looked ahead at the weather and saw that there is a possibility of rain and I know that many of the activities this week involve being outside and I do not want to miss any opportunities. Even though this is our first day we have discovered that many of the children in this culture are influenced by alcoholism. Most of this influence comes from parents or guardians and leads to poor choices. I actually feel excited about spending time with a culture completely different from my own and understanding how they live and work in a field that we have been so accustomed to over the last 4 years. Seeing how their culture influences the nursing lifestyle will further increase my cultural awareness. I feel like the Native American people are easily offended and that is something that I wish to avoid. By being respectful, listening and doing what I am told I feel like I will avoid this.
